DoSE wants ‘Kala Utsav’ as year long event

Director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe has suggested holding Kala Ustav (Art Festival) throughout the year stating that the event was not a one time show but a continuous process. He said the ministry of school education has launched Kala Ustav to promote arts in education, and therefore urged the district coordinators to take the responsibility to educate the students and make them understand the real meaning of Kala Ustav. 

The director, who was addressing the result declaration of online Kala Ustav 2020 state level completion at the office of the directorate of school education on Friday also pointed out the rich cultural diversity of the Nagas and called for cultural exchange amongst the different tribes.

Delivering key note address, assistant mission director Liyalo Apon said Kala Ustav was launched in 2015 to promote art in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of the students at secondary stages in the country. He said the competition provides an opportunity for the students to understand the rich heritage and cultural diversity of the country. 

Altogether 121 students from across the state took part in the completion held in nine categories. 

The event was organized by SAMAGRA Shiksha Nagaland. 

In vocal musical (classical) Ghokivi K Awomi of GHSS Zunheboto and Imtimoangla of GHS Longmisa Mokokchung emerged as winners in male and female categories.  Kikrusilie Kire of Dr. N. Kire GHSS Kohima and Tongrilila Sangtam GHS Chare were named as the winners in vocal music traditional. 

In instrumental music (classical) Raj of Dimapur GHS Sarbura and Sakulu Lohe GHSS Chozuba secured the first position in male and female categories while in instrumental music (traditional), Ngoneihie Nechulho of Dr. N Kire GHSS and Thujosulu of GHSS Chozuba Phek emerged as winners. 

Moatoshi of GHS Tzurangkong and Solomangla GHS Yangpi Tuensang secured the first position in dance (classical) and in dance (traditional) Imlisangba of GHS Longmisa and Poujianliu from GHS Mhainamsi Peren emerged as the champion in male and female categories. 

In Visual Art 2 Dimensional, Kevikhriezo Rutsa of Dr. N Kire GHSS and Sentiyala of GHSS Lingrijan Dimapur was the winner and visual art 3 dimensional Ekai Lam and Lijanbeni of GHS Sarbura secured the first positions in male and female categories. 

In indigenous toy making, Shingmei T. Phom of GHSS Longleng and Senjembeni Odyuo of GHS Englan Wokha were named as the winners.  The winners will take part in the national level competition.

Officials of SAMAGRA, representatives from various schools and jury members attended the event.
