Dr. Heptulla stresses on quality education

Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla said on Monday said that education was not about getting an employment but the ultimate goal should be to strengthen and develop the society.

She said this while giving away the Governor’s Award, 2018 and Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award, 2018 in Imphal. 

 “Education is to have skill, knowledge, values, believe and good habits to make one able to make the right choice,” she added.

The governor further said that the young and fresh minds needed to be groomed with the ability to let them become facilitators and mentors by inculcating them with certain principles and values which will never change. She said children should be made to learn to think and never be imposed of what they should and should not do, setting limitation of their ideas and views.

“Children should always be encouraged of their achievements or failure to make them become a better human,” she added. She also talked about promoting the rich arts and crafts of Manipur through education. “We should include arts and crafts in curriculums of modern education. Such century long knowledge will be a great service to our people,” she said.

The Governor’s Award for the year 2018 was conferred to Laimayum Preety Devi, a student of Class XI (Science) at RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Pangei (Imphal East) while Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award, 2018 was conferred to nine persons who excellent in various fields including topper of HSLC examination, teaching profession, physically challenged person, sports persons like Armed Wrestling, Cycling, Mountaineering & Trekking, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Judo.

The Governor’s Award was instituted in the year 1998 in order to promote and encourage the student’s of Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyala in pursuit of excellence in academic and co-curricular activities. 

The award carries a certificate and cash of Rs 15,000 while RK Sanatombi Devi Award was instituted in the year 1983 to recognize and encourage passion and excellence in various fields like education, arts, drama, sports, social workers, differently abled person, traffic control (police), journalism and handicraft.  It carries a certificate and cash amount of Rs 10,000.
