Dr. T Ao award: Unions appeal Gov, CM

Nikhekhu Students’ Union (NSU) has Monday appealed the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya to intervene and deliver justice to football coach Mughato Sumi who was denied Dr.T. Ao Sports Award.

In a press release, the union sated that Mughato, who is a recipient of many awards, has brought laurels time and again and has also produced players of national and international calibre.

While stating that Mughato was outrightly denied Dr.T.Ao Award due to “manipulation in the selection process,” the union stated that it will be a big discouragement for the sportspersons in the state if justice is denied.

Khughovi Local Student Union (KLSU) has, meanwhile, questioned the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio as to why Mughato Sumi was denied the Dr. T Ao Sports Award. In a press release issued by its president and general secretary, union questioned “if there were criteria based on community or is it that in Nagaland, results and achievements are not recognized through merit but through favouritism which was the case in respect of Mughato Sumi.”

The union has, therefore, requested the chief minister to thoroughly investigate as to why ‘this type of partiality’ had been meted out.

The union also hoped that the matter would be taken on priority ‘so that justice may prevail’ for citizens to believe in the government.
