The Red Ribbon Club (RRC), Sazolie College, Jotsoma (SCJ) in collaboration with KRIPA Foundation, Kohima, and Naga Hospital Kohima (NHK), conducted a drug abuse and HIV/AIDS awareness program on September 11 at the college auditorium.

A press release from SCJ, RRC nodal officer and assistant professor Medosano Mary stated that a presentation on HIV/AIDS, its history, precautions to be taken for prevention and its treatment process was presented by Vikholie Yiese of KRIPA Foundation. Sanjay Yadav, a former drug user, shared his life’s testimony and cautioned the students about the perils of drug abuse. Stating that young people were at a higher risk of abusing drugs, Ketho Angami, also a former drug user, urged the students to fight peer pressure and rise above the circumstances to fulfil their dreams.

There was an interactive session where several queries posed by the students were addressed by the speakers. Bendang Imsong of KRIPA Foundation, who chaired the program, led the students in pronouncing a pledge to abstain from abusing drugs.

In the painting competition held on the themes, “Drugs: Don’t start and be smart” and “Don’t let drugs keep you from your dreams”, Weto-ü Kapfo, Sensen Ilang and Limayapang Imsong were awarded the first, second and third prizes respectively.

The program was followed by an HIV screening test conducted by staff of NHK, where 26 students had their blood tested.
