Dorians Society Dimapur (DSD) organised an awareness campaign in Dimapur on November 26, to sensitise citizens on the threat of COVID-19 community spread.

A press release by DSD secretary general Sentiningsang Longkumer informed that, members led by chairperson Temjen Lemtur, took to the streets on foot sensitising commuters on the importance of personal protection against a communicable ailment. The campaigners were divided into small groups, and covered almost all major road intersections and market hubs starting from Tajen Ao Road (formerly Circular Road) and culminating at Super Market and Burma Camp junction.
Posters with COVID advisories as recommended by the Health department were also put up at important road junctions.  Longkumer stated that informative leaflets and recommended health masks were also handed away to pedestrians, roadside vendors, shopkeepers, customers and other commuters on cars and public transport venturing out disregarding the  “Dos and Don’ts” COVID advisories as issued by the Health & Welfare department.
He said, “Covid-19 pandemic was not something the citizens should take lightly or be careless about”, because if “we are not careful or think that the fight is over, it will lead to unnecessary suffering.” He further informed that through this public awareness drive, the society wanted to appeal the citizens of Dimapur to be responsible and follow the SOPs diligently. While conducting the campaign, which was organised with permission from Dimapur district administration and Dimapur Municipal Council, he said that members wore mask, gloves and used sanitisers. The message to the people was to wear mask, wash hands and maintain safe distance in public places which could save the community from deeper problems, he added.
He also said that the campaign was possible with the support from well-wishers.
