DSSU against shifting DC office

DIMAPUR, APR 7 (NPN) | Publish Date: 4/7/2021 12:47:07 PM IST

Expressing strong opposition to the state government’s proposed move to shift the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, the Dimapur Sümi Student’s Union (DSSU) cautioned that it would not hesitate to initiate democratic agitations against the proposed move.

DSSU president Vitopu Ayemi and general secretary Vitoka N Rochill, described “utterly ridiculous” the move to shift the present DC office and questioned the “logic behind shifting the office of urban town DC to a rural village.”

The union maintained that the current location was “strategically located” and convenient for the general public of Dimapur. It also said that the move would have negative impact on the day to day lives of citizens.

It said that shifting DC office would “greatly affect” the student community at large as most of the schools/colleges were within Dimapur town. DSSU has instead urged the government to consider the suggestion of creating two administrative heads (Urban & Rural DC).

DSSU also supported the demand made by Dimapur civil society organisations to revoke the use of the word “Head Quarter: Chumukedima” in the official letter head of the DC Dimapur.
