District Task Force (DTF) held a meeting on introduction of rotavirus vaccine (RVV) in Dimapur district at the DC’s conference hall, Dimapur on June 12.

A press release from UIP-RCH Dimapur district programme officer (DPO), Dr. Rebecca Y. Sema stated that, Nagaland will be the 12th state in the country to introduce the rotavirus vaccine in the routine immunization and will be the 3rd state among the North-East states. DPO informed that rotavirus vaccine will be introduced in the routine immunization schedule by the end of July 2019 and also emphasised that rotavirus was not a new vaccine and is being used in the private sector. This vaccine is to protect children from severe diarrhoea caused by rota virus. She informed that not all diarrhoea cases were caused by rota virus, but rotavirus vaccine is the only specific prevention against rotavirus diarrhoea. The treatment of rotavirus diarrhoea is similar to other acute diarrhoea such as using ORS and zinc tablet.

She also informed that once the rotavirus vaccine was introduce in the Dimapur district, 5 (five) drops of rotavirus vaccine will be orally given to infants at 6, 10 and 14 weeks along with other vaccines in routine immunization schedule.

The meeting was chaired by Kikato K. Chishi, SDO (C) Dimapur and other officials who attended the meeting were Dr. Antoly Suu, deputy CMO, Dr. Z. Kheshito Z, Zhimo, MS District Hospital Dimapur, Dr. Imtiakum, MO UPHC Duncan, Avonuo Kire, EAC Dimapur, Lolensangla Pongen, ADEO Dimapur, representatives from the DPRO Dimapur, UNDP Dimapur,  president of Muslim Council Dimapur and staff under CMO Dimapur.
