Earthquake jolts Mizoram, yet again

Another tremor of medium intensity hit the Champai district of Mizoram on July 17. The earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale, jolted the state at around 3:56 p.m. this evening. The depth of the quake was reported to be 10km.

The damage caused to assets and the villages is yet to be assessed and further details are awaited.

Earlier, chief minister Zoramthanga had forwarded a letter to Union Minister for Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi, stating that the Champai district in the eastern part of the state has witnessed tremors measuring 4.2 to 5.5 manifold since June 21.

The state of Mizoram has so far recorded a total of nine earthquakes since June 2020.
