Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, which had reported 12 COVID-19 cases so far and was declared a hotspot, has moved from red zone to orange zone on Friday, a health official said.

Altogether 10 of the total 11 COVID-19 active patients have recovered with one still undergoing treatment and a second retest for 12th patient has been sent on Friday.

Meghalaya had a total of 12 COVID-19 positive cases out of which 11 were active and one dead.

“East  Khasi Hills district has moved from red zone to orange zone since there have been no fresh report of active positive COVID-19 in the last 14 days,” Commissioner and Secretary for Health and Family Welfare department, P. Sampath Kumar said over phone. “If there is no fresh case for 28 days, a hotspot district moves from the red zone to the green one,” he added. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the third test of the two positive patients have also come out negative which means that they have recovered and number of recovered patients has gone up to ten.

He said the 12th patient has also yielded negative results and another test would be carried out after 24 hour and if that too comes out negative, the patient would be declared recovered. It may be mentioned that two more tests on the positive patients were conducted after completion of their 14 days quarantine period.

With no report of fresh case of active COVID-19, the State government on Friday decided to allow a series of relaxation post May 4 but with conditions for areas falling under the green zone only barring Shillong agglomeration where restriction is still there.
