ECI yet to announce re-poll at Singrep poll station 11

Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to order re-poll at Singrep village under 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly constituency despite a request made in this regard by the State’s chief electoral officer.

According to CEO office, a scrutiny was conducted on Wednesday and report sent to ECI. Sources said re-poll was likely to be held only at no. 11 Singrep polling station. 

It may be recalled that due to some scuffle outside the polling station, voting was discontinued and the returning officer had recommended re-poll in his report. 

Meanwhile, counting of votes for the by-polls to the two Assembly constituencies of 14 Southern Angami and 60 Pungro-Kiphire held on Tuesday will take place on November 10 and results declared that day.

Prohibitory order to remain till Nov 10

Following reports about poll related violence on November 3 during the by-poll to 60 Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency, the deputy commissioner Kiphire informed that prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC will remain in force till November 10.

In an order, DC Kiphire, AK Ranjan said “whereas incidents of poll related violence has been reported. Therefore, it has become urgent and necessary to take preventive measures.”

In this regard, DC stated that assembly of more than five persons in any part of 60 Pungro-Kiphire is prohibited in the interest of free and fair election and to maintain public order.
