Eight positive COVID-19 patients test negative in M’laya

Eight patients, who had tested positive for COVID-19 a fortnight ago, yielded negative for the virus on Wednesday, although another test has to be conducted, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said

“The swab samples of the eight positive COVID-19 patients tested negative for the virus. They will be again retested after 24 hours as per protocol to completely declare them as recovered,” he told journalists.

  Stating that the report of no new positive cases in the State is indeed a “positive sign”, he however cautioned  alertness must not come down and all preventive measures should continue.

 Earlier, Chief minister Conrad K. Sangma, who took twitter, informed that 16 family members, including the eight positive patients, of the index patient were retested.

“Their test results came in today and they have all tested negative,” he said.

  Meghalaya recorded the first COVID-19 positive case on April 13, that of Dr. John L Sailo Rynthathiang , the Director of the Bethany hospital, which is now declared as COVID-19 hotspot in this state capital.

Among the 16 family members, including the eight immediate family members of the renowned physician and philanthropist Dr. Sailo, yielded negative for COVID-19.

The samples of another three positive patients will also be taken soon for re-test.

 Tynsong informed that till Wednesday, samples of 1,397 individuals have been tested. Of these, 1,288 samples have tested negative while the results of another 97 samples are awaited

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government has re-started the use of Rapid Test Kits for screening which was earlier put on hold following directions from the ICMR.
