EJC threatens road blockade

DIMAPUR, AUG 29 (NPN) | Publish Date: 8/29/2019 11:52:05 AM IST

Expressing dismay over government apathy towards their long-standing demand for improving 18km road from Khubokita via KPA engineering college, Atoizu ADC HQ to Khitsakita NH 702, the Emlo-to Joint Council (EJC) has threatened to impose road blockade along that stretch.

In a press release, EJC chairman Hetoi Zhimo and advisor Khehokhu Kiba said that the joint council in October 2018 had written to the PWD minister, MLA 32 Atoizu A/C, commissioner & secretary PWD,  chief engineer PWD (R&B), ADC Atoizu and executive engineer PWD (R&B) Atoizu division demanding construction of road without delay. However, there was not positive response till date. EJC also stated that the fund which was to be sanctioned for the road has not been released even after a lapse of two years.
Further, the joint council stated that the road remained unattended since the first construction carried out during British period, adding that at present the movement of vehicles along that stretch has become difficult. As a result, the EJC said the area people and the commuters from other areas plying that road were facing untold hardships.
Therefore, the council has demanded the government to blacktop the 18km road stretch as resolved by the joint meeting of EJC and landowners held on October 4, 2019.
Failure to concede to its demand, the joint council affirmed that stern action would be followed with blockade of road for which the authority would be held responsible.
Also, objecting to the proposed road construction from Khubokita to Zunekita, the joint council maintained that the alignment of the proposed road was not as per specification and vehicular movement would not be possible.
