Eri silk project promoted at Chungtia village

Chungtia Village Council (CVC) promoted a project on Eri Silk Development for Women Empowerment (ESDWE) in Chungtia village on June 7, organized by Central  Muga Eri Research  & Training  Institute, Lahdoigarh, Jorhat in Assam and sponsored by Central Silk Board, Ministry of  Textiles, Government of India.

A press release from CVC stated that, the nodal officer of the project, Imotemjen Lkr, informed that Ministry of Textiles under NER-Textile Promotion scheme has sanctioned INR 17.74 cr. (2018-19 to 2020-2021) and has put Chungtia village council in-charge as the executing agency.

The project will run three years exclusively for women beneficiaries and carries different levels of silk production chain. 150 women have been trained so far by scientists from Central  Muga Eri Research  & Training  Institute in batch-wise and rest 150 beneficiaries will be trained in cluster-wise. 

On June 7 beneficiaries who have completed their training were given certificates during at a programme held in Chungtia community hall. The project materialised after Minister Zubin Irani assured to implement the project to the proposal submitted by CVC.
