Electoral Roll Observer (ERO) for Wokha district Commissioner Secretary and Secretary PHED, Government of Nagaland, Y. Kikheto Sema visited Wokha district on January 9 and held meeting with political parties and electoral officials at the Deputy Commissioner official chamber.

According to DIPR report, briefing the political parties and electoral officials present, Sema quoted Article 325 of the Indian Constitution and said that no person will be ineligible for inclusion in electoral roll on ground of religion, race, caste or sex. Further, he mentioned Section 17 & 18 of the Representation of Peoples Act 1950 & 51 and said that no person should be enrolled more than once in any constituency.

Sema reminded the political parties on appointment of BLA for assisting the BLOs in the field verification and also to identify Absent, Shifted, Dead (ASD) and deleting them through BLOs. Analyzing the format 1-8 of Wokha district and comparing with that of Nagaland state, he appreciated healthy sex ratio maintained by the district. He also pointed out the deviation as compared to the electoral roll with that of census, under enrolment in the age group of 18-19 and over enrolment in higher age group (abnormal enrolment) and urged the official to rectify them during the revision period.

He further urged the political parties not to be active only during election time but to cooperate with the election machinery during the revision so that the district can have error free electoral roll. After the meeting, Roll Observer also visited some of the polling station, checking the record of the BLOs and also meeting the leaders of the villagers and colonies.
