ESSU appeals DoSE for immediate intervention

Even after highlighting about the abandoned school buildings construction at GMS Ngozubo, GMS Viyilho, GMS Shevishe and GMS Kelto under SDEO Aghunato in local dailies, the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) said that the concerned department has not taken any action.

A representation to the principal director of School Education by ESSU president Hokato V. Yeptho stated that, ESSU was waiting for some logical response from the concerned department considering the gravity of the issue. ESSU has time and again urged the concerned department to proceed with the incomplete construction even before the news was highlighted and thereafter.

Pointing out that these school building projects were sanctioned, funded and implemented under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) during the years between 2010-2013, the ESSU stated that these sanctioned funds of school buildings have reportedly been withdrawn and utilized but the works were all left incomplete and abandoned.

ESSU expressed dismay with the implementing agency (SSA), the concerned department and the concerned officials/personals “who undertook the projects and hampered the development activities rendering these institutes functionless for nearly a decade” and depriving education to many children belonging to below poverty line families.

In this regard, the ESSU demanded stringent action against those erring officials/personnel of the implementing agency involved in the case and asked the concerned authority for immediate intervention.

Taking a serious stand to pursue the issue as it is directly related to education of future generations, the ESSU stated that it would be compelled to take its own course of action if immediate steps are not taken to resolve the issue.
