Euclayptus tree uproots; damages transformer

External lines and electric post were damaged between MS Dimapur quarter and generator room at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) converted into COVID-19 hospital on Saturday late afternoon, when a eucalyptus tree uprooted and fell down. 

Medical superintendent (MS), DHD, Dr. Kheshito Zhimomi while mentioning about the incident told Nagaland post over the phone that power department & administration were informed immediately for intervention. Personnel from electrical department led by SDO and engineer reached the spot and started working on war footing with more than extra 20 workers.

The uprooted tree damaged two transformers, 250 KV and 500 KV. Power supply has been disrupted in the area following the damage caused to the electric transformer. A total of nine electric poles and security guard room were also damaged in the mishap, he added. However, no casualties were reported.  He also said that the Medical department have been appealing the electrical department to clear out the high tension wire within hospital jurisdiction, but it is yet to be addressed. 

The workers of the Power department rushed to affected areas for restoration of power supply but could not restore till the filing of the report. According to DPRO, Dimapur electrical department officials assured that the lines would be restored by July 4 night, stating that they were working with emergency extra manpower.
