Security forces in Manipur on Friday recovered a huge quantity of hand grenades and ammunition in a follow up operation to the arrest of a women cadre of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF).

The recovered items included 20 Chinese hand grenades, 20 detonators and 1120 live rounds of ammunition of AK-series rifle, police sources said.

According to the source, the explosives and ammunition was recovered from a workshop at Tera Amudon under Lamphel police station of Imphal West district during a raid conducted by a combined team of state police commandos and troops of 6 and 26 Assam Rifles on Friday.

The raid was carried out based on disclosures made by the arrested woman member of ZUF identified as Rebika Kamei (45) wife of Moirangthem Samungou Singh of Naoremthong, Imphal West.

Police alleged that besides being a member of ZUF, arrested Rebika is the elder sister of ZUF publicity secretary, Azona Kamei and sister-in-law of “self styled army chief” Darei Chiru of the outfit, who hailed from Bungte Chiru village in Bishnupur district.

During spot verification, Rebika admitted that she was working for ZUF since July 2017 under the command of “SS army chief” Darei Chiru and was engaged in the transportation of arms and ammunition of the outfit. She will be handed over to Lamphel police station along with the seized items, the source added.
