An Integrated Export Development Project, a first of its kind training in the state, sponsored by the Department of Horticulture and executed by North East Foundation, was held on July 14 at Development Association of Nagaland, Chekiye Village.
The resource person for the training was Flt Lieutenant (retd) and expert on Import/ Export Business (Faculty, Delhi School of Business), Malayendu Mukherji.
During the training the lack of infrastructure to facilitate and promote export was discussed.  The need to have a Customs department to conduct customs valuation in Dimapur Airport was also discussed besides the need to conduct value addition training for farmers under the aegis of the state government.
The discussions resulted in the conclusion that the state had a lot of potential to export agro and horticulture based products.
The trainees also formed an association called ‘Nagaland Importer and Exporter Association’ and a seven-member drafting committee was elected to provide tentative guidelines and draft the constitution for approval by the house.
The valedictory program was graced by director of Horticulture, Dr. R. Elithung Lotha who interacted with the trainees and expressed the hope that the trainees would take this venture forward and put Nagaland on the international exporting market in the future.
Thirty trainees were awarded certificates on  their completion of the Integrated Export Development Project training.
