Farewell programme for outgoing official

Directorate of Economics & Statistics bade farewell to its outgoing director, Y Sacheo Ovung, who retired on completion of 35 years of service, at the directorate conference hall on August 31.

A press release by the department stated that, Ovung in his speech encouraged young officers and staff to have the enthusiasm to learn and ensure strengthening statisticians by bringing accurate data for better planning and policy making at different levels. 
While appreciating the support and cooperation of the officers and staff of the department during his tenure, Ovung also assured of his cooperation towards the department even after his retirement.
Incoming director, R. Kronu acknowledged the outgoing director as a mentor and teacher while being the longest serving director of the department for more than eight years. He highlighted that after joining as language translator in the education department in 1985, Ovung also served as statistician in PWD in 1988, and became assistant director of Economic & Statistics department in 1992 and went up to head the department since 2009.
Describing him as a collected and broadminded gentleman with patience, Kronu wished him prosperity and a healthy retired life.
Special secretary, Kevileno Angami congratulated Ovung for successful completion of his innings in good health while maintaining that he was an enthusiastic and receptive director.
Remarking that economics and statistics was an unknown department but the role it played was critical, Angami said that it brought out data for factual planning and policy making. She also lauded Ovung for being instrumental in bringing several changes including reformation in cadre structure.
Earlier on behalf of advisor for Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics & Statistics, L Khumo, his PA, Pokio Khiam delivered his speech while chairman Nagaland Bio Resource Mission, L Thronghokiu, president Nagaland Economics & Statistics Services Association, Neisatuo Puro and other officers and staff of the department also spoke on the occasion.
