FAW attack: Team conducts surveillance in Dimapur

Following reports of damage caused by Fall Armyworm (FAW) on maize crops in Dimapur district, a joint team comprising of staffs from Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Dimapur under Directorate of Plant protection Quarantine & Storage, Faridabad and District Agriculture Office, Dimapur visited the maize fields in and around Dimapur Sadar and conducted surveillance and pest scouting on May 16, 2019.

In a press release, CIPMC, Dimapur plant protection officer (PP) Dr. Mukesh Babu said during the visit the team observed that the standing crop of matured maize had escaped FAW attack but those in the seedling and whorl stage were being damaged and infested with FAW. The joint team interacted with farmers and suggested various control measures. The team also released Reduviid bugs in some fields as bio-control measures. The team would continue to supervise and monitor spread of FAW pest to other crops and assist the farmers in its prevention, it stated.
