FGD conducted in Longleng district

Focused group discussion (FGD) and interpersonal communication on maternal health, child health, family planning and adolescent health was conducted in seven villages, namely Auching, Sakshi, Yangching, Yongphang, Montikang, Yongam and Nyang under Longleng district from February 17 to 18. 

A press release from CMO office Longleng stated that, FGD was conducted by district media officer (DMO) Roseline and district community mobiliser (DCM) Henmei with lactating mothers, pregnant women and eligible couples as the target group.  
The sessions were conducted to sensitize and create awareness and educate the people on various health issues, and to bridge the gap between the beneficiaries to boost their health seeking behavior. It was implemented with a view to reach the grass roots levels in the villages with an average of ten participants per village. 
The release stated that, despite the existence of sub centres, the villagers are still reluctant in seeking health care, and in immunizing their child. ASHAs in all the villages have been mobilizing the mothers to send the pregnant women to health units for institutional delivery; however eligible couples opt for home delivery. 
The components of Janani Surakhsha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Surakhsha Karyakram (JSSY), adolescent health, free screening of eye and heart in government schools and anganwadi centres, different methods of family planning, ANC registration were discussed as well.
