First Kohima Arts & Jazz festival celebrated

 The first Kohima Arts & Jazz Festival was celebrated with much fun fare and joy as the day marked the International Jazz Day on April 30 at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma.

The one-day event was organized by Nagaland College of Music & Fine Arts (NCMFA) and supported by Music Task Force (MTF) Nagaland. 

The evening concert kicked started with Chris Jazz Trio setting up the mood of the jazz music in the arena,  while Ameu Üsou Zao & the Choir, Tetseo Sisters, Blue Print, Virie, Nagagenous, NCMFA Jazz Ensemble and Mengu Suokhrie also performed during the occasion. 

Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Govt of Nagaland, Er. Zale Neikha, graced the event as the special guest for the evening. 

In his speech, he said the government was creating more platforms for the young talents to get the exposure, and more avenues will be created in the field of music for those who are willing to work hard.

Adding, he said that there will be competition for young singers and talents where the winners will get an opportunity to tour with established singers and artistes this year. 

He added the government was trying its best to promote music and arts in the state and has given an industry status calling it music industry. 

While the department will be celebrating each music genre this year starting from this festival he hoped that all forms of music would flourish in Nagaland. 

The advisor said the department are also introducing “performing arts” in our program for the first time this year where people will be taught to act and communicate to improve the society.

Earlier in the morning session, News Editor of All India Radio Kohima, Asonuo declared the festival open. In her short speech, she said such festival was befitting as it promotes the local artistes in the state and give them a platform to showcase their talent. She also called upon the young people present to make best use of their talents in order to bring out the standard of an art. 

During the day event, it feature indoor and outdoor stages of live music, fine art, photo gallery, restaurants, crafts, ethnic food, and inflatable castle for kids and information booths.
