Assam Police have arrested five cadres of Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger anti talk faction (KPLT) from different places of Karbi Anglong district, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
The operation was jointly launched by police forces of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. “The joint police force after successive operations, which lasted for several days, arrested the ultras from various locations. All the five are involved in heinous crime including extortion, kidnapping, murder and rhino poaching,” said Dilip Kumar Dey D. I. G Central Range on Monday.
The whole operation was conducted by officers of Karbi Anglong police with active support from police of other districts.
Assam government provided ample scope to KPLT to surrender and join the mainstream but they choose easy money by committing crimes, said Dey.
Around 254 pro-talk KPLT have come over ground and have expressed willingness to lead normal lives added Dey.
The arrested KPLT cadres have been identified as Ritesh Teron, Mansing Tokbi, Bister Hansey, Malthus Rongpi and Harsing Ingti. One .34 calibre pistol, three .25 calibre pistol and several rounds of ammunition, six mobile phones, large number of SIM cards and incriminating documents including demand notes have been recovered from the arrested persons.
“This operation will certainly diminish the rate of ultra related crimes from the hill areas of Assam and will help to minimize rhino poaching in Kagiranga National Park. However Karbi Anglong Police will continue offensive against the ultras, particularly against the poachers,” said Gaurave Upadhay, Superintendent of Police Karbi Anglong.
