Forerunners beat SZFC to top table

Khwetelhi Thopi brace helped Forerunners FC Thizama to beat Sechü Zubza (SZFC) 3-2 to top the league standing of Seyie Auto Kohima Football League-3 here at the IG Stadium, Kohima on Thursday.

With the win, Forerunners FC top the table with 9 points, while Sechü Zubza are in the second with six points.

In a highly anticipated match, Forerunners got off to a better start but Zubza keeper Medophrezo Kezieo pulled off two stunning saves to keep the team in the game. Zubza should have taken the lead early on but Shurhosul Zhotso missed a sitter. It was Noune Medoze who scored from a rebound in the 28th minute to give the lead to Sechü Zubza.

However Forerunners FC fought back into the game, with Captain Khwetelhi Thopi scoring the equalizer from a spot kick conversion in the 38th minute following a foul by the defender inside the box. The first half ended 1-1 with both teams falling to score the lead.  

Within the introduction of the second half, Zubza team captain Rhitsho Mero headed the lead in the 47th minute. But Razouvito scored a long range kick in the 53rd minute to give the equalizer again for Forerunners FC. And 13 minutes later, Thopi scored his second goal in the 66th minute from a close range to give the lead to Forerunners FC.

Zubza team continued to push for equalizer back but Thizama team managed to hold on the lead till the end of the final whistle.

Thizama team should have scored more goals in the second half but striker Thopi squandered numerous chances.  Zubza team will rue their chances in the first half for not scoring despite their chances.

Zubza will now take on Vanguard FC on June 15 in their fourth match, while Forerunners FC will play against Kohima Eagles FC on June 17.

Rhitsho Mero with 7 goals in three matches continues to lead the highest scorer list, while Thopi is in second place with six goals from three matches.

Keneilhoutuolie Miachieo, IFS, conservator of forest, department of forest was the match patron.
