Formalin laced fish seized in Pfutsero

An inspection team comprising a Food Safety Officials led by food security officer Phek, Samuel Zehol along with district administration, police personnel and Pfutsero Town Traders Union conducted a raid and seized 77 kilos 400 grams of formalin laced fish from different locations at Pfutsero Town on June 30.
According to a press release issued by FSO, the raid was carried out after learning that some of the food business operators at Pfutsero town were selling formalin laced fish.
Food safety commissioner & commissioner and secretary, Himato Zhimomi has prohibited storage, distribution and sale of fresh fish products including crustaceans treated with formalin in Nagaland for a period of three months or till corrective measures are taken. 
The FSO said the seized fresh fish were tested in the State Public Health Laboratory, Nagaland, Kohima and were found to be formalin positive. 
The seized fish were dumped at the Pfutsero Town Council Dumping Site in the presence of the inspection team on July 3.
Addressing the public gathered, the Phek FSO gave a briefing on the Food Safety measures and norms and explained the relevant consequences of consuming unsafe food. He cautioned the colonies, wards, chairmen to be active and vigilant in checking for unsafe products.
