Four killed in accident in Manipur

Four labourers were killed and four others including the driver sustained critical injuries after the truck they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge at Biyang village, four kilometres away from Keithelmanbi police station of Kangpokpi district, Monday morning around 6:30 am.

The vehicle carrying seven labourers was on its way to a stone quarry at Kotlen in Noney district when it skidded off the road and fell into the 130 feet deep gorge, police said.

Three labourers died on the spot while one succumbed on the way to hospital. All the four injured were evacuated to RIMS and JNIMS hospitals in Imphal were three of them have been referred to Shija hospital after their conditions became serious.

All deceased and injured victims were from Moidangpok village of Thoubal district. The deceased labourers are identified as Laishram Dolen Singh (36), Laishram Nando Singh (30), Wangkheirakpam Shanta Singh (33) and Thokchom Tondonda Meetei (26).

The injured labourers were Laishram Sanjit (34), Laishram Naotomba (27) and Thokchom Sitaljit (34) while the driver was identified as Thokchom Naoba (34). Police from Keithelmanbi police station who immediately swung into action along with security forces on foot patrolling retrieved the lifeless bodies after rescuing the injured labourers and transferred them to hospitals in Imphal.

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to RIMS morgue for necessary official procedure, police added.
