FPA India launches nationwide campaign

Family Planning Association of India (FPA), launched nationwide campaign “Youth Dialogue- A perspective on FP 2020” to create awareness on ‘Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for all’.  

In a press release FPA India, stated that the campaign intends to mobilize young population of India and initiate conversation to understand their access to information and services related to sexual and reproductive health. 

Secretary general and CEO, FPA India, Dr. Kalpana Apte, stated that around 1.8 billion youngsters are entering reproductive years in the country. Hence, it was necessary to not just work closely with Government and private bodies, but also get the young people’s attention towards their own sexual and reproductive health. He stated that it was important for youth to have access to proper information and clarity about the issues they will be facing. He claimed that FPA India work towards creating an enabling environment for youth to get care and protection while seeking sexual and reproductive healthcare, counselling and services. 

President, FPA India, Nagaland (Kohima), James Liezietsu, stated that adolescence was the age of experimentation and youngsters are at risk of turning towards unhealthy path related to family planning, sexual education, use of contraceptives method and safety measures, sexually transmitted Infections including HIV and AIDS etc. He stated that through the campaign, the young generation should take lead in assessing sexual and reproductive health, Family Planning 2020 agenda and draw a robust plan for Family Planning 2020 and beyond. 

The release further stated that the campaign will be concluded by submitting state wise report card which will put together the findings reflecting voices of young people and multiple other stakeholders. These report cards would then be presented to Government of India and further discussed at a national-level consultation in New Delhi.
