Ghokuto and Viheto villages under Ato area remained cut off as the only life line to the two villages was severely affected by a massive landslide between Nihokhu township and Ghokuto village on August 27.

Informing of this, Shikavi Zhimomi said incessant rain triggered the landslide on the only road that connects the two villages to EAC headquarter Nihokhu.

He said it was impossible for vehicles to ply on the road as the road has been blocked with mud that slid down from above the road while in some places the road has sunk several meters.

The chief of Ghokuto village said the road was constructed in 2012 under PMGSY however till date no proper maintenance has been witnessed since then.

Villages have been maintaining the road on their own by deploying villagers and funds managed by the village council, he added.

On behalf of the affected people of the villages, Shikavi has appealed to the concerned department and government to extend all possible assistance under any scheme deemed fit, to repair the road.
