A felicitation program for the eight successful students of HSLC exam 2018 first batch of Government High School New Market (GHSNM), Kohima was held with joint secretary Nagaland, Kovi Meyase on July 20 at the school. The felicitation program was organised by School Management Community (SMC), Teachers and staff of GHS, New Market Kohima.
Speaking at the occasion as the speaker, Kovi Meyase congratulated the passed out students and lauded their teachers. He reminded the students that they were the pioneers who had set a record and urged them to set good examples for their juniors and be disciplined role models. Meyase appealed to the outgoing students to not forget the efforts of their parents, teachers, community, school staff, friends, juniors etc. who worked behind them to ensure that they were successful.
With the advancement of modern technology, he advised the student community to not be slaves or addicted to gadgets like mobile phones, i-pads, computers etc, though such gadgets may be necessities. He encouraged the students to inculcate in themselves the habit of reading books as nothing could substitute books. He also asked them to spend time on health maintenance by helping parents with their household chores, which, he said, is also an engagement in physical activity just like in sports. He stated that matriculation and graduation were the two most important milestones of a student’s life.
Vilanuo, headmistress GHS, New Market, in her address stated that the day was a red letter day as it marked the celebration of its first batch of successful students. She highlighted some of the issues and problems of the school like lack of infrastructure, teacher shortage, among other things. She also said that the school needed a future vision as it will be upgraded to a higher secondary school in the upcoming years.
Saruta spoke on behalf of the passed out students who attributed their success to their headmistress, parents, teachers and others.
Tosovise Pusa, member of SMC and Rokobeizo Nyusou, chairman, New Market Area Panchayat also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Pastor Daniel Sangma invoked God's blessings, a welcome address was delivered by Medongunuo Solo, and a special number was presented by students of Class X. Mezhuzolie Yiese chaired the program while Zeriiiizo Suohu delivered the vote of thanks. The students were also given gifts, cash and felicitation certificates arranged by the well wishers of the colony and the school teachers.
