Governor Acharya calls for supporting entrepreneurs

Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has called on Nagaland University and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Nagaland Regional Office to support entrepreneurs till they are able to sustain themselves.

“The goal of educational institutions should not only be to impart knowledge but to also make students stand on their feet” he stated. 

According to a press release by the Raj Bhavan PRO, Acharya was speaking at a review meeting held at Raj Bhavan Kohima on April 8 with Nagaland University and NABARD officials. Appreciating the institutions for taking up the challenge of creating entrepreneurship in the field of agriculture, the Governor expressed hope that skill development programs would be introduced in all colleges in Nagaland. 

Acharya called for identification of the State’s natural resources and the needs of the State and society and introduce academic skill courses as per these requirements to turn students into entrepreneurs once they are done with their education. He opined that it will strengthen society economically. “This should be the agenda of educational institutions” he added. 

NU vice chancellor, Dr. Pardeshi Lal and NABARD Dimapur general manager, SK Dhumal, highlighted for the Governor the initiatives of the two institutions. They stated that 62 students studying in the School of Agriculture Studies & Rural Development (SASRD), NU who were sensitised on various avenues in the agricultural field by NABARD AGM, HV Biswas. Interactions were also held with university staff on NABARD’s various promotional and developmental initiatives.

Acharya had earlier called on NABARD to work with universities in the State for all round development. The meeting was also attended by other officers of NABARD.
