Governor felicitates players of NE girls (U-19) football tourney

The Governor of Nagaland, Acharya met the players, support staff of the ongoing North Eastern States Girls U-19 Football Tournament and officers of IGAR (N) at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on July 20. The governor encouraged the budding players to utilise the medium of sports for overall growth and for furthering the spirit of integration. He also lauded the initiative of the Assam Rifles for organising the first of its kind tournament for young girl footballers from the North East.

In the first semi-final match, Sikkim XI fought back from a goal down to defeat Manipur XI 2-1. Manipur took the lead when Kipgen found the net in the 33rd minute. Laxmi scored the equaliser for Sikkim in the 73rd minute. With the match ending one score apiece, 30 minutes extra time was added, wherein Laxmi scored the golden goal to lead Sikkim into the final.
In the second semi-finals, Mizoram XI beat Assam 3-2. Luangi scored a goal in the very 7th minute of the game giving Mizoram XI an edge. However, Assam XI came back strongly scoring back to back goals in the 33rd and 35th minutes. But Mizoram XI with better coordination and attack scored two more goals in the 49th and 73rd minute and booked a place for the Finals. 
Sikkim XI will take on Mizoram XI in the final match on July 21 at 2.30 pm at IG Stadium, Kohima.
