Ngaland Governor R.N. Ravi in his maiden speech on the eve of Independence Day, stated that India has been relentlessly and unwaveringly pursuing the path of a secular and plural democracy during its 73 years of independence as the world’s largest democracy.

He said the country has built strong foundations for establishing internationally credible institutions of law, justice and a robust free media including diversity of faith, language, culture and cuisine.

Governor Ravi added that multiple faith and cultures thrived in this beautiful mosaic. Ravi also extolled the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under whom India was rising up to its long awaited destiny to become the world’s fifth largest economy and on way to become the fourth largest with aspirations of becoming a $5 trillion economy by 2025.

The governor however lamented that while all other states were experiencing fast paced growth, Nagaland was lagging behind . He said there was differential growth and development between Nagaland and other advanced states in India.

However he said that in the 55 years of statehood, Nagaland has undergone significant transformation for the good.

Among these was the remarkable progress in the parameters of human resource development but there was vast unmet potential of the land and people.

Other areas of concern, which the governor noted were connectivity infrastructure which was poor even by the standard in some north eastern states.

He said the such slow pace of development was “stealing away the future of Nagaland.”

He also stressed that it was essential for growth to provide equal partnership of mothers, sisters and daughters of Nagaland who remain disadvantaged in terms of health care, nutrition, education and employment opportunities.

Ravi also pointed out the need to unleash the creative genius and entrepreneurial potential of youth, by creating “a congenial atmosphere, free from fear of gun and multiple taxation” and providing them with easy access to credit and technology.

On the occasion, he asserted that Nagaland was at the point of its history with the dawn of peace and prosperity beaconing the state. Ravi therefore called upon the people of the state and all sections to commit to a pledge to build “Nagaland of our dreams” so as to be the envy of even the most advanced states in India.
