Govt issues road safety advisory

In view of frequent occurrence of landslide, depressions and rockfalls in vulnerable locations, the Government of Nagaland, Works and Housing Department, has requested the commuting public/vehicles to avoid night travels and avoid halting/parking on slide/sinking prone locations.

In an advisory, commissioner and secretary (Work & Housing), Rovilatuo Mor, advised all responsible to ensure reliable mechanical condition of the vehicle before journey including proper lights, fog light etc.

The government has asked the public to adhere to traffic norms of one-way traffic on narrow stretches and give way to emergency vehicles viz Ambulance, Army, Security and essential services.

Further, it has been advised to avoid overloading vehicles considering the vulnerable road conditions vehicular load capacity be restricted 3-axel 10 wheelers with load capacity of 24 tones till improvement of weather. The advisory stated that this was essential to avoid road blockages/avoidable accidents by overloaded mode of transports.

Meanwhile, the state  government stated that the unfinished road construction works due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic lockdown has rendered the road conditions additional risks of rockfalls, slides and unfavourable road surface conditions.

Therefore, while the road authorities concerned would endeavour to attend to the dire necessities for ensuring undisrupted road communication, the commuting public/vehicles have been requested to adhere to safety measures.

The government has also provided contact numbers in case of any road emergencies.
