Deputy chief minister Y Patton has reassured people of Nagaland that the Health & Family Welfare department along with Home and other departments were working 24/7 for the safety of all citizens.

Addressing a brief meeting held to assess the state’s preparedness to tackle coronavirus pandemic at his official residence here on Tuesday, Patton directed the district administrations, particularly those in the inter-State borders, to re-strengthen the sealing of the border areas.

He also appealed to all civil society groups, NGOs, churches and student bodies to come out and support the various safety measures being adopted by the state government in guiding the common people to comply with the government’s advisories.

Patton also directed state DGP to instruct all units to remain alert and extend full cooperation in all possible ways as and when required. He emphasised initiating stern action against those people not complying with the government advisories pertaining to social distancing and staying indoors, except for necessary emergencies.

Expressing concern over the random and unnecessary movement of government employees and students, Patton explained that shutting down of offices and educational institutions, except essential services, did not mean that they should roam around in public places, but stay indoors to avoid getting infected by COVID-19 as the best remedial measure was staying at home.

He appealed to the people of Nagaland not to panic or get swayed by rumours being spread on social media from unauthenticated sources, but remain calm and strictly adhere to the advisories issued by the government from time to time. “Stay at home and stay safe,” he remarked.

The meeting was also attended senior government officials from various departments and police.
