HC directs KAAC to frame its own election rules

All Karbi Anglong Tribals Students’ Union (AKATSU) has welcomed the order of Gauhati High Court directing Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to frame its own acts and rules for conduct of election as mentioned in the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India. In its press note, AKATSU vice president Shumsi Kro and assistant general secretary Pranjan Kemprai lauded Ratan Terang and 17 organizations for filing the PIL which it termed as a historic development for the people of Karbi Anglong. The release mentioned that that Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council will have to act without any delay to frame its own acts and laws as directed by the High Court and empowered by the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
The organization expressed hope that the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council would honor the judgment and complete framing of its acts and laws to conduct election within six months as directed by the Gauhati High Court in its recent order.
