Health mela conducted at Yaongyimchen village

District Health Society (DHS) Longleng organized its annual health mela at Yaongyimchen village under Yachem block on April 15, also covering four neighbouring villages. 

A press release from CMO Longleng, district media officer, Roseline stated that, Dr. Imnameren Phom DPO (RCH/UIP) encouraged the villagers to avail the services that were provided. He also gave specific instructions as to whom to approach and where to proceed for the treatment. He also thanked the Yaongyimchen citizens for their tireless efforts. 

Medical superintendent I/C chief medical officer, Dr. Toshirenla spoke on the importance of health mela, the services that were available and said that the aim of the health mela was not just to provide healthcare services but to create an environment where the whole community gets sensitized about health issues. 

Village council, chairman Yangpong in his short speech thanked the medical fraternity especially medical superintendent I/C chief medical officer, Dr. Toshirenla for leading the entire team and approaching their village for the health mela. He also appealed to the villagers to extend their co-operation throughout the programme. 

District media officer, Roseline and district community mobilise, Henmei conducted focussed group discussion on maternal health, family planning, breastfeeding, and child health. 

IPC sessions were conducted for lactating mothers and pregnant women. IEC materials, leaflets in local language as well as in English were distributed for awareness and publicity. District Adolescent Club also presented a street play on ANC (Ante Natal Care). 

During the mela, free health care services were provided and awareness on different health issues, prevalent issues and their prevention were imparted to the villagers. A total of 488 OPD cases were registered. 

Earlier, the programme chaired by Burnemla DEO (IDSP) began with an invocation by pastor Purtemsu from Alayong village. Short speeches were delivered by Yaongyimchen village, pastor, Nganlang and deputy CMO, Dr. Thungbemo Patton. 

It may be noted that Yaongyimchen village has no sub centre. In this regard, the village council and the citizens together funded a small community owned health centre in the village where first aid treatment is provided.
