Health minister Pangnyu’s mother passes away

Mrs. Longkei Phom, mother of Minister for Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) S. Pangnyu Phom, passed away in Dimapur Monday. She was 92. She is survived by her husband, five sons, one daughter, 26 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Born in 1925, late Mrs. Longkei Phom was one of the firsts from Yachem village to embrace Christianity. 

Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, expressed pain over her demise and conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

In condolence message to Pangnyu, Rio said as the wife of the first pastor from the village, she played a tremendous role of moulding not only her own children but those from the entire village and beyond. “She was an exemplary and God-fearing mother whose contribution to society is evident from the careers of her children and she was blessed with good health and long life,” chief minister said. Rio prayed that bereaved family would find strength and solace in the grace of Almighty God and also for the departed soul rest in eternal peace.


Dy CM:
Nagaland deputy chief minister, Y Patton, also convey condolences at the demise of late Lonkhaievom, mother of H&FW minister S Pangnyu Phom.

In a condolence message, Patton said he demise was not only a loss for the family, but for the Nagas. He said the void created by her demise would be difficult to fill.

Deputy CM, on behalf of the Nagaland BJP legislatures and BJP state functionaries, shared deepest heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones at this hour of grief and sorrow. He also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


ENSF: Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has expressed sadness over the demise of mother of H&FW minister, Pangnyu Phom, and extended condolences to the bereaved family members at this hour of grief and pain.

In a condolence message, ENSF described her as a beautiful soul, full of love and faith, adding that she was “indeed a blessing to all that surrounds her.” The federation also stated that it has known her to be “a mother of great compassion fulfilling all responsibilities in all gracefulness”.

ENSF also prayed that “love and mercy of our Lord be bestowed upon the family members during this unfortunate time and the departed soul find solace and peace in His heavenly abode.”
