Heavy rain, hailstorm lash Nagaland

As forecast by the Met department of heavy rainfall activity in the North Eastern region, several parts of Nagaland on Tuesday morning witnessed heavy downpour and hailstorm.

In Kiphire district, heavy hailstones with strong winds damaged properties and crops. Villages like Salomi, Wongti, New Wongti,Penkim and other parts Pungro Town under Kiphire district were affected. However, there were no reports of any casualty.

Dimapur also witnessed heavy downpour on Tuesday during the wee hours and witnessed widespread drizzle during the day. Heavy rainstorm also battered several villages  under Mokokchung district.

In Merangkong village several houses were damaged including the Church by the storm coupled with heavy rain. 

On April 19, houses and crops at Sungratsu, Mopungchuket and Chungtia villages were also destroyed by heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm. Similar incidents were reported across several parts of the state.

Met department predicted heavy rainfall activity, between April 20-23 in parts of East and North East India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the incursion of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal was expected over North East and adjoining east India for the next 3-4 days.
