Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 concludes

The Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 which kicked off on December 3 at Tsuza Eryu, Doyang, Wokha culminated at Lavi Lake, Dimapur on Saturday.

K. N. Mhonthung Lotha who won the pond/lake event received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 along the certificate of citation. Kedibe Liegise and Roon Hazarika who stood in second and third position were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. 

Other winners include Peteneizo Kense, Akai Awomi, Kuhokhu, Akashe Zhimomi, Mar Longkumer, Chandan, Sujit, Deepak Sarkar, Amal Kumar Banik, Lawrence Humtsoe, Kamal Kanta and L. Edward Lotha.  The pond/lake event carried a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs while river event, held at Doyang on December 3 gave away a total cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakhs. 

Kevisa Kense, director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, who graced the prize distribution ceremony as a special guest lauded the Anglers Association of Nagaland for the all out effort to promote angling in the state of Nagaland and said Nagaland need such recreational and sporting activities that can promote tourism, conservation etc in the state. He was also of the view that sport fishery is much profitable and therefore it must be encouraged in the state. 

Assuring to extend all possible support to extensively promote angling in the state, Kense informed that the department will explore places earmarked by the department in other districts and develop those areas. 

Phukato Sumi, president, Anglers Association of Nagaland thanked the department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for being ever supportive towards the association. 

Asang Jamir, convenor, Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 proposed vote of thanks. H. Lawrence, Secretary, AAN, chaired the price distribution ceremony. 

More than 150 avid anglers from different parts of the country and state participated in the festival. 

Hornbill Festival 2018 was organised by Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) in association with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Department of Tourism.
