Hornbill Pistol & Shooting competition

The 1st Hornbill Pistol & Shooting competition, organised by the Nagaland State Rifle Association (NSRA) in collaboration with the Tourism Department, was held in the 4th NAP Firing Range, Thizama, Kohima on December3. 

Khrietsolie Seyie won the Rifle event while Michael Rhakho and Dzuviemeno I Yaden emerged as the 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up respectively. In the Pistol event, Israel G Xuivi emerged as the winner, and Shalo Khing and Otoka H Yeptho bagged the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively. The winners received a prize of Rs 50,000 each while the 1st and 2nd runners up received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively along with citations.

More than 40 shooters including officials registered for the events. 

The event was graced by additional chief secretary and NSRA honorary president, Temjen Toy, IAS along with DGP and NSRA vice president, T. John Longkumer, IPS.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Temjen Toy expressed his optimism to see shooters from the state representing the country in the 2022 Olympics. Nagas are gifted in shooting and it can become a popular sport with adequate facilities, he said. Toy also announced that an international shooting complex was nearing completion in Dimapur, which can be used to train and to facilitate young budding talents in the future.

While delivering the welcome address, J I Yaden, secretary, NSRA gave a brief genesis about NSRA which came into existence in 1969 as Kohima Rifle Club under the initiative of Lt. T C K Lotha and Lt K Peseyie. He also reiterated the vision of the founding members to channelize and transform the Naga youths to take pride in their marksmanship for more productive use of their talents. 

Neilasa Sopfii, honorary joint secretary, NSRA proposed the vote of thanks.
