IDEVAW observed at Kohima, Phek, Kuthur

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (IDEVW) was observed on November 25 at Kohima, Phek and Kuthur village.

Kohima: Commissioner and secretary of Social Welfare, & administrator, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, Sarah R. Ritse virtually launched a digital campaign of IDEVAW under the theme, “We are in it together: Let’s end gender-based violence”. A press release by State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) Nagaland, stated that in her message, Ritse asserted for collective responsibility to ensure women’s safety and encouraged everyone to participate in the online digital campaign.
The day marks the launch of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence which culminates on December 10 (human rights day).
Digital activities are jointly being organised by department of Social Welfare, Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB), State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) Nagaland-Mahila Shakti Kendra, and 181-Women helpline (WHL) Nagaland.
The activities include online pledge campaign, poetry slam video competition, awareness video on pledge campaign, IEC on legal entitlements to empower women, and an awareness video on service providers 181-Whl & Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC).

At district level, district administration under BBBP programme would be organising various activities with MSK-District Level Centres for Women (DLCWs) and Sakhi-OSCs to commemorate the occasion.
Phek: District administration & DLCW-Mahila Shakti Kendra in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC), Phek, under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiated IDEVAW on Wednesday under the theme, “Orange the world: Fund, respond, prevent, collect”. 
A press release by district administration & DLCW-MSK stated that, DC Phek, S. Sachin Jaiswal emphasised on the need to eliminate violence against women and also spoke about the different gender-based violence such as physical, emotional and economic violence. DC also appraised that there was a separate cell for the North East region women under IG at Raj Bhavan.
He urged the gathering to spread the message of “stop violence against women” which will bring impact to our society and work together hand in hand. 
Speaking on the theme, SP Phek Vesupra Kezo highlighted the cases which have been registered under crime against women. He encouraged that one should all be responsible of teaching the younger generation on what gender-based violence was. Programme was chaired by SDO (C) & nodal officer BBBP, Phek, Bhavani. There was a walkathon which was flagged off by DC.  Various civil societies and students from different schools attended the event. DC also launched LED at public place in Phek. Further, various activities will be conducted at Meluri sub-division under Phek district in 5 villages including Shilloi Lake. 
Kuthur village: District Level Centre for Women: Mahila Shakti Kendra (DLCW-MSK) and Tuensang district administration observed IDEVAW on November 25 at council hall, Kuthur village, under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).
A press release by women welfare officer DLCW Tuensang, Songmao M stated that the main aims and objective of the event was to convey information regarding women rights and to practice justice in the society.
Songmao M highlighted the core concept of BBBP programme and stressed on violence against women in present scenario.
She said that women helpline number 181 played a vital role in Nagaland so as to make use in terms of any violence against women. 
District coordinator (MSK) Tuensang, S. Niamkoi spoke on the pandemic and highlighted dos’ and don’ts.
Earlier, the team also distributed sanitary pads and face mask to attendees in the programme. Altogether, 30 widows and 40 adolescent girls attended the programme.
