A local made IED wrapped in a polythene bag was found placed at the main entrance gate of Imphal Public School, Canchipur under Singjamei police station of Imphal West district on Saturday.

Students, teachers and non-teaching staffs of the school along with locals staged a protest in front of the school to denounce planting of the bomb in near the school. Later, locals of the surrounding areas joined the protest.

After the chowkidar detected the  unattended polythene bag at the gate of the school early Saturday morning, he informed  the school authority who then informed the police who rushed to the spot immediately.

The police with bomb experts defused the bomb and disposed it at a safe place later. Police suspect the IED was planted by a militant group in connection with monetary demand from the school authority.
