In search of Naga political solution

By Nagaland Post | Publish Date: 10/31/2019 12:38:47 PM IST

In Naga history, it was on August 14, 1947 that Nagas declared her Independence.

Based on the unique history and situation of Nagas, August 3, 2015, Naga Peace accord was signed in the presence of PM Modi. It was covered extensively all over the world. The search for Naga political solution came into limelight. Prime Minister Modi called it historic. Moving on thereafter, on his visit to Saudi Arabia, he highlighted the Naga peace accord as an example during his address to bring home the need for peace-talk to understand and resolve any problem against violence.

Shri R.N Ravi was the immediate former Deputy National Security Advisor of the Sovereign State- India. Needless to tell him that Nagas are not a threat to India in the least. He is the present Governor of Nagaland as the head of an Indian state to oversee the law and order of the land with power vested upon him by the constitution of India. On top of that, he has been deputed by one of the most popular Prime Ministers of the day world-wide with overwhelming support for his leadership not only in India but also an acclaimed international leader who heads the largest democracy in the world to conclude the peace talk with the Nagas as the interlocutor of India. Am sure, R.N Ravi, as the Naga interlocutor will present the Nagas’ situation to strengthen the policies and visions of Hon’ble Prime Prime of India- Shri Narendra Modi in as far as the search for Naga-Indo peace is concerned. The PM policies and visions are crystal clear. He wanted a new India that is vibrant, prosperous and strong.

PM Modi’s Act East Policy is a step beyond look east policy initiated by former PM P.V Narasimha Rao in 1991. It aims to reach out for building trade and security partnerships not only with the Association of South East Asian Nations but also with East Asia. The Tri- National Highway connecting Moreh in Manipur- India, Myanmar and Thailand is completed. India is a major player in South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation. To attract the South Asian Nations and East Asia nations, peace in Naga region will be imperative. Nagas can contribute towards the Act East Policy of the Prime Minister of India in favour of his visions.

ASEAN VISION 2020 looks to a common market in their region without trade barriers. Government of India had a look and decided to act so as to expand its influence in friendly trade relations. Without market expansion, India or for that matter any country cannot be prosperous and strong. In line with this, it is in the National Interest of India to co- exist with Naga nation. Foreign policy of any country in today’s world is driven by marketing strategies and security concerns. Therefore, to overlook India’s own national interest for appeasement of a section of its own subject will not be in the best national interest of India. That course of appeasement and action could be at best rated as a good manager by virtue of being the governor, but short of a great visionary leader.

Someone coined the acronym of the word POOR as: PASSING OPPORTUNITIES OVER REPEATEDLY. To me a visionary leader will not pass opportunities over to uncertainty but will dispel the uncertainty and take measures to consolidate towards his/ her vision.

I strongly believe Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is not only an excellent manager but also a great visionary leader. He will surely put an end to Indo-Naga conflict in the National Interests of both India and Nagas and set strong pillars towards a promising future. India needs to build bridges that can connect road to peace and prosperity. India can be stronger with friendly and trustworthy neighbours. Nagas could be another friendly and trustworthy neighbour in as much as they desire to live in peace however insignificant she appears at the moment. Friendly supports and security partnerships are necessary to ensure continued growth and prosperity for our generations to come.

It is my fervent appeal to the Honourable Prime Minister of India to fructify the Indo-Naga peace talk toward mutual benefits to both for the sake of humanity, peace, prosperity and security in this part of our world. I am very optimistic of a better future when great minds sit down and talk as had been going on for the last twenty-two years in search for Naga Political Solution with a Great Nation whose sons and daughters contributed pricelessly and taught the principles of Non-Violence and Truth to a much better world that we live in today.

Nonetheless, Nagas will dearly cherish 14th August as always.
