Independence Day celebrated across Nagaland

With the rest of the country, Nagaland celebrated Independence Day on August 15 with celebrations organized in various districts and sub-divisions. Following are reports of the celebrations from across that state.

All the reports excluding the first four were sent by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

Mon: The 72nd Independence Day at Mon headquarter was celebrated at Local ground, with Paiwang Konyak, minister for Transport, Civil Aviation & Railways, Land Resources as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest spoke about the Naga political issue and various measures taken up by the government.

He also drew attention to the integration of Naga inhibited area and said that the PDA government supports the desire of the Naga people for the integration of all contiguous Naga inhabited areas.

While appealing to the negotiating parties, especially the GoI to expedite the process and respond to the voice of the people by bringing a political solution at the earliest, he reiterated that the present government was committed to pave the way for an alternative arrangement that may arise from the political agreement.

The chief guest unfurled the flag and took salute from 20 marching contigents. The parade was commanded by  Dy. SP Mayang Jamir.

Other highlights of the day were special numbers by Government Wangkhao College, Ahngjong Mission High School, Drill and Choreography by Green Mount School, Mon, GHSS Mon Town ‘D’, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mon, Cultural dance by Watsu Telongjem, Mon Town and Women Cultural Society Mon Town.

Institutions like District Hospital, sub jail, Rehab Centre and John 3:16 (orphanage) were visited by Supply department Mon, DIC Mon, district & Session Judge and Water Resources department Mon. (Correspondent)

Kiphire: Along with the rest of the country, Kiphire celebrated India’s 72nd Independence Day with minister of Agriculture and Cooperation, G. Kaito Aye, as the chief guest at Public Ground, Kiphire, today.

Reading out the Independence Day speech, the chief guest said that with this celebration people are reminded of the sacrifices and devotion of the country’s freedom fighters to the cause of Independence from foreign occupation through struggle and sacrifice.

The chief guest, after his speech, inaugurated the exhibition stall and power tillers were also distributed.

Folk dance was performed by, Kiphire Alongshung Atparu Mulong (KAAM) and Eastern Sumi Hoho Kiphire.

Other highlights of the program included a special song by Leochum V and reciting of a patriotic poem by Kievithong Tikhir.

In the afternoon a friendly football match was played between DC & SP 11 and United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) followed by beating of a retreat by DEF Kiphire. USSC won the footvball match 3 to 1.

At Seyochung the celebration was graced by advisor of Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics & Statistics, L. Khumo.

Also, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Kiphire Branch visited the Shalom Children’s Home Kiphire in commemoration of the 72nd Independence Day on August 15. A team was led by Mohammed Ali Shihab, DC & Chairman, IRCS Kiphire which was accompanied by Administrative Officers and members of Red Cross Society. 

The Indian Red Cross Society Kiphire Branch donated a sum of Rs.10,000 to the Shalom Children’s Home. (Correspondent)

Mokokchung: The 72nd Indian Independence Day was celebrated at Imkongmeren Sports Complex. The celebration was graced by Metsubo Jamir, minister Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Nagaland as the chief guest. The chief guest upon his arrival unfurled the national flag. After the inspection of parade, the chief guest delivered his speech followed by the march past where he took the salute. The chief guest also gave away the district awards. After the formal program, an entertainment and cultural program followed where group dances, group songs, street plays etc. were performed. At the cultural program, troupes from Amoklushi cultural club, Longsalong cultural club, Sumi Union Mokokchung, Sangtam Union Mokokchung presented various items including a performance by the 44 Assam Rifles marching band. Later after the program, the chief guest inaugurated the ‘Organic Bazar’ organized by the District Agriculture Office, Mokokchung. (Correspondent)

Tuli: The 72nd Independence Day was observed at Tuli town with advisor Tourism and Art & Culture, H. Khehovi unfurling the National Flag. 

Addressing the function H. Khehovi said that Nagaland, which came into being on December 1, 1963, today stood at the threshold of a common future -- with hope for an early and final settlement of the Naga Political Issue that is honorable, inclusive and acceptable for the Nagas. Stating that this issue was at the top of the PDA government’s agenda, he said the government had committed to play the role of an active facilitator in the ongoing political negotiations between the Government of India and the Naga Political groups. 

Khehovi said that with the intention of promoting tourism and increasing the tourism economy for generating more employment in the sector, the state government had announced conduct of similar hornbill festivals in every district to coincide with tribal festivals.

He informed the people gathered that 2019 would mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Kohima and to commemorate the milestone and to promote war tourism, a committee has been constituted to study and implement how the state could best use this significant aspect of history to contribute towards the economic progress of the present and future generations.

Earlier in the morning, the chief guest reviewed the parade and took salute from six parade contingents. The function was marked by cultural presentations from Watsu Telen Tuli and Tongpang Ruju Cultural Society Tuli. (Correspondent)

Phek: Phek district headquarters celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Phek local ground on August 15 with minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, Kashiho Sangtam as the chief guest.

He unfurled National flag and took the Rastriya salute with the National Anthem. He also delivered the Independence Day Speech and inspected the parade contingents and took the salute from seventeen parade contingents.

Peren: Along with the rest of the country, Peren District celebrated 72nd Independence Day on August 15 at Multi-Disciplinary Outdoor Sports Complex at New H/Q Peren with minister for Health & Family Welfare S. Pangnyu Phom as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National flag and took the salute from the contingents. 

Zunheboto: Along with the rest of the nation, Zunheboto district celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with minister for Higher and Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along as the chief guest. He unfurled the national flag and then inspected the parade contingents and read out the speech followed by march past by the contingents. 

Tuensang: The 72nd Independence Day celebration was held at Tuensang HQ at Parade Ground Tuensang with Minister for Public Works Department, Tongpang Ozukum as the Chief Guest. After unfurling the National Flag, the chief guest read out the speech and took salute from 16th Parade Contingents.

Wokha: The 72nd Independence Day celebration was held at Wokha at Local Ground, Wokha, with minister for Planning & Coordination and Land Revenue, Neiba Kronu as the chief guest.

Altogether, 14 parade contingents took part in the parade, the parade was led by astt. commandant 7th NAP BN Bhandari, while ABSI (DEF Wolkha) was the second in command.

Longleng: In Longleng the 72nd Indian Independence Day was celebrated with Jacob Zhimomi, minister for Public Health & Engineering (PHED), Nagaland as the chief guest at local ground, Longleng. He unfurled the National Flag and took salute form 15 parade contingents. 

Noklak: The 72nd Independence Day celebrated at Noklak at public Ground with advisor Printing & Stationery, H. Haiying as chief guest. He unfurled the national flag and took salute from 10 parade contingents.

Pfutsero: Along with the rest of the country, the 72nd Independence Day was observed at Pfutsero with advisor, Rural Development, Government of Nagaland Dr. Neikiesalie Kire as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National Flag and took salute from eight parade contingents.

Meluri: Along with the rest of the country Meluri sub-division celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Meluri Local ground with Rhosietho Nguori, ADC Meluri as the chief guest. The ADC unfurled the National flag and took salute from nine parade contingents. He also read out the Independence Day message.

Thonoknyu: At Thonoknyu Sub Division the 72nd Indian Independence Day National Flag was unfurled by Head Dobashe Tuchithong Tikher on August 15 at 6 a.m at SDO Civil Office Campus. All the DBs and GBs attended the program.

Aboi: 72nd Indian Independence Day was celebrated in Aboi local ground with advisor, IPR, SCERT and VG, Toshi Wungtung as the chief guest who unfurled the national flag and took salute. He inspected the parade contingents and also read out the independence speech. 

Pughoboto: Pughoboto sub-division celebrated the 72nd Indian Independence Day with ADC Pughoboto, Phuleshe K. Yepthomi as the chief guest, at the local ground.

The chief guest unfurled the tri-colour National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute from eight contingents and read out the Independence Day speech. 

Chozuba: ADC Chozuba, Japheth Woch unfurled the National Flag where a host of dignitaries, heads of departments, GBs and public leaders attended the function.

Bhandari: Bhandari sub-division celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with ADC Bhandari, Tiameren Chang as the chief guest. He unfurled the National Flag and delivered the Independence Day speech. 

Jakhama: Along with the rest of the State Jakhama Sub Division celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Sub Division Officer office at Jakhama.

SDO (C) Jakhama, Alemyapang Longchar unfurled the National Flag and delivered the Independence Day speech. 

Tseminyu: Tseminyu Sub-Division celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at RSA ground, Tseminyu with Dr. Longriniken, advisor for Law & Justice, Border Affairs, Treasury & Accounts, as the chief guest.

The chief guest unfurled the National Flag and took Rashtriya Salute from the leader of the parade commander and inspected the parade contingents after which he delivered the Independence Day speech.

Tening: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with the rest of the country with Sarita Yadav, ADC, Peren, Government of Nagaland as Special Guest at ADC Administrative Headquarters Tening local ground.

Hoisting of national flag in the government offices/ residence and institutions, unfurling of national flag by Special Guest and salute from contingents and enchanting national anthem were the other highlights of the day.

Shamator: With the rest of the country Shamator Yimchungru celebrated the 72nd Indian Independence day which was attended by many including different Yimchungru organizations. National flags were hoisted in all government offices and commercial buildings. 

Commissioner, Government of Nagaland, M. Patton, graced the program as chief guest and unfurled the tricolour national flag which was followed by inspection of parade contingents and the Independence Day speech. 

Jalukie: Along with the rest of the country, Jalukie Sub-Division under Peren District also celebrated 72nd Indian Independence Day on with advisor for Irrigation and Flood Control Namri Nchang as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National tri-color flag and took the Rastriya salute. 

Naginimora: Along with the rest of the country Naginimora celebrated the 72nd I -Day with Renabomo Odyuo, ADC Naginimora as the chief guest who unfurled the National Flag followed by National Anthem from Care Well School. 

Chiephobozou: Chairman NKVIB, Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu unfurled the Tri-colour during the Independence Day celebration at Chiephobozou. He read out the Independence Day speech of the chief minister.

Longkhim: The 72nd Independence Day celebration was held at Longkhim Town at Public Ground with Imnatiba, advisor, Industries and Commerce, NIDC as the chief guest. After unfurling the National Flag the chief guest read out the speech and took salute from eight Parade contingents.

Wakching: Wakching observed the 72nd Indian Independence Day at local ground, Wakching. Relise Sangtam SDO (C), Wakching unfurled the national flag and took salute from eight contingents and read out the Independence Day speech.

Sanis: Independence Day was celebrated at Sanis Government High School ground. Advisor for Horticulture Mhathung Yanthan graced the function as the chief guest.

The chief guest unfurled the Tri-Colour National Flag and took salute from four parade contingents.

Atoizu: Atoizu ADC Hq celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Atoizu ground with ADC Atoizu, Arikumba as the guest of honour. The guest of honour unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade, read out the speech and took salute of the march past contingents. 

Satakha: Satakha ADC Hq celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Satakha public ground with ADC Satakha T. L. Kiusumong Tikhir as the guest of honour. The guest of honour unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade, read out the speech and took salute of the march past contingents. 

Medziphema: The 72nd Celebration of the Indian Independence day was celebrated at Local Ground Medziphema sub-division with advisor of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Women Resources, R. Khing as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National flag and took the Rastriya Salute. 

Tizit: K.T Sukhalu Advisor, School Education unfurled the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations at local ground, Tizit.

The chief guest read the Independence Day speech and took salute.

Tobu: The 72nd Independence Day 2018 was celebrated with traditional fervor in Tobu HQ where advisor for DUDA N. Bongkhao Konyak hoisted the National Flag followed by National Anthem and delivered the Independence Day speech. He also took salute from 11 contingents.

Pungro: Along with the rest of the country, Pungro celebrated the Independence Day at local ground, with advisor Youth Resource & Sports, Zale Neikha as the chief guest. He took the salute from the 7th parade contingents. 

Changtongya: Along with the rest of the Nation, 72nd Indian Independence Day was celebrated at Changtongya Headquarter SDO (C) Office premises with Moakumzuk Tzudir, SDO (C) Changtongya as the chief guest. He unfurled the Indian National Flag and delivered the Independence Day speech. 

Tamlu: In Tamlu Sub-Division the Independence Day 2018 was celebrated with ADC Tamlu, Y. Chingyak Konyak as the special guest at local ground Tamlu. 

The Special Guest unfurled the national flag and took the salute from seven contingents. 

Niuland: Niuland sub division celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Public ground Niuland. ADC Nuiland Athrila unfurled the Tri-colour national flag and took salute from eight contingents. 

Ralan: The 72nd Independence Day celebration was observed at Ralan, with SDO (C) Kikato K. Chishi as the chief guest who unfurled the National Flag and delivered the Independence Day speech. 

Chen: Along with the rest of the country, Chen Hq observed Independence Day at SDO (Civil) Complex at Chen Town. SDO (C) Chen, T. Moa Lemtor unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute. 

Aghunato: The 72nd anniversary Independence Day was celebrated in Aghunato with T. Nchumbemo Odyuo ADC as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the tri-color National flag and took salute from the parade contingents.
