Inter-college extempore speech competition held in Kohima

As part of the “Audit Diwas/Day” celebrated across India which commenced on November 16, the office of the principal accountant general, Nagaland also organised an inter-college extempore speech competition as part of the “audit awareness week” focused on “accountability, transparency and good governance” in and around Kohima on Wednesday.

A press release from the office of the principal accountant general (audit) informed that the event was organised to give a platform to the youth to express their views on the present scenario of “accountability, transparency and good governance”.

Some of the views expressed by the participants were: government and the public should work together for better governance; marginalised and people at the grassroots level are suffering more due to corruption at the top and development not reaching them; lack of strong action against wrong-doers’ is encouraging more corruption in the state.

The views also included: overpopulation of educated youths; need to change mindsets and look towards private sectors/self-employment; punctuality and discipline in the government offices will promote good governance; deplorable conditions of the government hospitals in the state which needs to be strengthened and others. 

The judges for the competition were professor, department of English Nagaland University, Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü, DG (home guards, prisons & SDRF) Rupin Sharma and DC Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan. 

Altogether, 24 students representing 12 colleges in and around Kohima participated in the competition. 

Takanungba Pongen of Modern College, Kohima emerged as the winner, HanlulaYimchungrü of Sazolie College, Jotsoma as second runner-up and Philomina Rutsa of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma in the third position. The winners were awarded were cash prizes and certificates. Consolation prizes with certificates were also awarded to all the participants.
