Inter Government College Olympic concludes

The three-day Inter Government College Olympic 2019 concluded Saturday with Kohima College emerging as the overall champion.

Dimapur Government College and Kohima Science College Jotsoma was declared as the first and second runner-up respectively.

Peren Govenrment College was declared as the most promising college.

The Olympic witnessed events such as athletic, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis. Over 700 participants from 13 government colleges took part in the Olympic.

In football, Sao Chang College Tuensang emerged as the winner while Pfutsero Government College and Fazl Ali College Mokokchung secured the second and third place.

In volleyball (Men) Yingli College emerged as the champions while Kohima Science College and Fazl Ali College secured second and third position.

In volleyball (Women), Zunheboto Government College emerged as the champions while Phek Government College and Mt. Tiyi College bagged the second and third place respectively. In badminton, Fazl Ali College emerged as the winner, Peren Government College secured the second place while Kohima Science College bagged the third place.

In table tennis, Kohima Science College bagged the champions trophy while Kohima College and Fazl Ali College secured second and third place respectively.

Trophies, medals and certificates were awarded to all the winners. The overall champion received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 while the first and second runner-up received a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.

Earlier gracing the occasion as special guest, advisor, youth resources and sports, Er. Zale Neikha appreciated the minister of higher and technical education, Temjen Imna Along for initiating the event to bring together students from different government colleges under one umbrella to share and learn from each other.

He also lauded the department of higher and technical education and the host college for taking the responsibility to organise the event.

While asserting that PDA government has a vision to take sports in the state to another level, Neikha said the government is very keen to promote, motivate and assist excellent sportspersons in the state.

The laying of Astro-turf at Indira Gandhi stadium was just the beginning to something more worthwhile, he said and further added that the initiation will be a morale booster for the young talented footballers and other sports alike.

Also he informed that in commemoration of the 100th Birth Anniversary of Dr. T. Ao, the department of youth resources and sports has laid foundation for construction of Regional Football Academy at Siethekhema, Dimapur.

Minister of higher and technical education, Temjen Imna Along, advisor DUDA N. Bongkhao Konyak, commissioner secretary higher and technical education Dinesh Kumar, senior government officials and others attended the closing function.
