JCPI serves ultimatum on govt; demands implementation of ILP

Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigration (JCPI) has served an ultimatum on the state government to implement all the recommendations made by the Abhishek Committee on ILP by June 2019.

In a press release, JCPI convenor K Ghokheto Chophy and secretary Tia Longchar said the resolution was passed at a meeting held on May 18, 2019 at Tourist Lodge hotel Dimapur called by the JCPI. It said 12 tribe hohos; CSOs such as NTC, NGBF, NCD, CNTC, ENPUD, UNTABA, SN, ACAUT, Nagaland Garo Union, and Dimapur district-based bodies like DDGBF, DUCCF, TUCT, CAKU, ASTD, WCH, LHD, DNSU, ASTUD, AYF, and DAYO attended and passed three-point resolution.

The house resolved that Dimapur should be brought under ILP and all modalities related to enumeration of indigenous inhabitants of the state should be completed by June 2019. 

The house also approved the formation of North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) and selected Theja Therieh, Tia Longchar, Thungchamo Ngullie as representatives of Nagaland state to NEFIP. 

Further, the house resolved to have extensive deliberation on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) with Tenyimi People’s Organisation (TPO), Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), Kuki Inpi Nagaland (KIN) and Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland (KTCN) – representing 16 tribes – on June 7, 2019 at 11 am at Tourist Lodge Hotel, Dimapur.
