John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema and Baptist High Kohima booked their quarter-final berths after winning their respective pre-quarterfinal matches at the ongoing 3rd Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament 2019 on Monday here at the IG Stadium, Kohima. 

The three week long tournament is being jointly organised by Royal Club Kohima (RCK), Department of School Education and Department of Youth Resources and Sports. 

John Government Higher Secondary School continued their good form in the tournament as they overcame Mt. Hermon Higher Secondary School 2-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In the match, it was Mount Hermon HSS who took the lead in the 27th minute thanks to a goal from Nenshalo. But John Government HSS team rallied from behind to get the equaliser in the second half and bring back the tempo of the game. Kelethuto Kin found the net in 39th minute and Neingusazo Neikha struck the winning goal in 47th minute. Mount Hermon HSS players fought hard for the equaliser but John Government HSS held on to the lead till the final whistle to win the match. 

John Government HSS will play against Government HSS Tseminyu on June 10. 

Meanwhile, Baptist High Kohima came from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory over Dainty Buds School. 

Thejanguzo broke the deadlock in 16th minute for Dainty Buds School. But in the second half, Baptist High Kohima captain Cheniren Patton found the equaliser in the 43rd minute. 

Aphong Salim scored the second goal in 54th minute to help the team win the match 2-1. 

Baptist High Kohima will take on the first edition champions Rüzhükhrie HSS on July 10.
