John Government Higher Secondary School Viswema outclassed first edition champions Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School 4-1 in the final match to lift the title of the 3rd Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament 2019 here at IG Stadium, Kohima on Monday.

Viswema team captain Vichüto Phira with his goal scoring form led the team to victory scoring twice and winning himself the golden boot.

Viswema team got off to a good start as Justin Malangmei opened the scoring in 4th minute. Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School failed to put pressure and break the defensive line.

In the second half, Viswema scored thrice in nine minutes. Kelethuto Kin added the second goal in 51st minute, Vichüto Phira scored in the 53rd and 59th minute to make it 4-0.

Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School did find a consolation goal through Kevize-u Semou in 65th minute. 

The champions John Government Higher Secondary School received a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 along with running trophy, citation and certificates, while runner-up Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School received Rs. 50,000 along with trophy, citation and certificates. 

The two semi-finalist St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima received Rs.20,000 each along with certificates.

Mt. Sinai Higher Secondary School was named the best discipline team while Stella Higher Secondary School was named the best cheering school.

Tepevil Thokhwe of St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School was named the best player of the tournament and Vichüto Phira of John Government Higher Secondary School with 11 goals was the highest scorer of the tournament.

All the 32 teams were also given participation certificates.

Menukhol John, Principal Secretary, School Education graced the valedictory programme and gave away the prizes to the winners. 

Earlier, the valedictory function began with an invocation prayer by Dr. Ruokuovilie Sachü, associate pastor, Khedi Kehou while Thejao Vihienuo gave a brief note on the tournament. A choreography was performed by Stella Higher Secondary School and special numbers were presented by Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School and Keneisenuo Sorhie.
