Dimapur Lizutomi Kuomokulu (DLK) and Lizutomi Union Zunheboto (LUZ) have demanded judicial enquiry into the killing of an alleged extortionist, one Khehuto I Assumi by the anti-extortion squad of the police at Kohima town on June 23, 2020.

In a press release, DLK president Yehekhu M Aye and general secretary Hekato Y Achumi strongly condemned the killing and said that “such inhuman and barbarous act” committed by the law enforcing agency was unlawful in a civilized society. DLK maintained that letting off those involved in gunning down the accused without proper investigation would be travesty of justice. The union has, therefore, appealed to the state government to immediately set up judicial enquiry into the incident and provide justice without delay.
Meanwhile, LUZ through its chairman Kipito Swu said it cannot condone carrying out extortion activity, which was punishable by law. However, LUZ said that killing a person without fair trial by law enforcing agency was “condemnable act” as it contradicted the very morale they represented. The union has, therefore, appealed to the responsible authority to initiate judicial enquiry into the matter and deliver justice to the deceased and bereaved family at the earliest.
